My Film Music Portfolio
Every film carries its own heartbeat, and my role as a composer is to find it. In this portfolio, you’ll hear the scores I’ve written for stories big and small — music that aims to hold emotion, spark imagination, and live between the frames. These projects are a glimpse into how I love blending sound and story into something unforgettable.
Die Kantoor (2026)
Directed by Bennie Fourie
Comedy TV Series
I had the privilege of co-writing the theme music for Die Kantoor, the Afrikaans South African adaptation of The Office, together with Bouwer Bosch.
The brief was to honour the recognisable spirit of the original The Office theme while creating a fresh musical identity with a distinct South African flavour, tailored for local audiences and the tone of the series.

Totsiens, Selina (2025)
Directed by Lourensa Eckard Drama Short Film
For Totsiens, Selina, a tender and resonant short film, I embraced a stripped-down musical approach. Writing primarily for piano and strings, I leaned into simplicity to let emotion surface—so much so that more than once, composing this score brought me to tears. Every note reflects the profound recognition that, in South Africa, every middle class household has a Selina—a steadfast presence whose love often goes unspoken. Working alongside producer Wynette Theart, director-writer Lourensa Eckard, and their gifted cast—including Clementine Mosimane, Lorraine Burger, and Maki Mokhitli—was a privilege. I’m deeply proud to have contributed music that quietly honors her legacy and amplifies the film’s emotional core.

Bly (2025)
Directed by Tana Pistorius
Drama Short Film
For Bly, the evocative short film by emerging writer–director Tana Pistorius, I had the privilege of helping translate her powerful vision into music. Set during a stormy night, Bly explores profound themes of loss, euthanasia, and the enduring presence of grief. It's a haunting rumination on what remains when a loved one is gone.
Together with my friend and gifted violinist Matthew Stead, we composed tender, bittersweet violin melodies that embody both the fragility of life and the quiet ache of memory. It was an honour to collaborate with Lara Lourens and Third Law Productions, whose creative support helped bring this intimate story to life. Working alongside the dedicated filmmaking team—Tana, Anton Dekker, Karin Retief, Liza du Plessis, Clarence Raymond, Alan Thrope, and all others—was deeply inspiring
Sewe (2025)
Directed by Tana Pistorius
Drama Short Film
For Sewe (2025), a powerful short film written by Karlé Briedenhann and directed by Ingrid Vraaghom, the story explores the devastating realities of domestic violence and the painful struggle of leaving abusive relationships. Premiering at the kykNET Silwerskerm Film Festival, Sewe was an intimate and emotionally charged project. I composed a melancholic, haunting score built around piano and violin, performed by Karlé’s sister, Madri Muller. Together, we explored “ugly” violin textures and raw, emotional phrases to capture the tension, fragility, and unspoken pain at the heart of the film.
Noise & Neighbours (2024)
Directed by Liza Ludik
Drama Short Film
In the touching drama Noise & Neighbours, a lonely little girl and her down-on-his-luck neighbor form an unlikely bond through the sound of music. Before the cameras rolled, I composed a soundtrack that mirrors their unconventional connection, weaving together piano with the everyday rhythms I unearthed in my own kitchen — the clatter of pots, pans, mixers, boxes, and the sweep of brooms. These found sounds become Helmut’s improvised percussion, echoing his tentative communication with Bolelo through the floors and ceilings. The resulting score brings a tactile intimacy, a quiet humanity that reflects how two lives, unseen but deeply present, find harmony in the smallest resonances.
Deuntjie (2024)
Directed by Adri Britz
Musical
I was proud to co-compose and co-write music for Deuntjie, a South African musical comedy short directed by Adri Britz, which premiered at the Silwerskerm Festival.
For the soundtrack, Adri and I crafted a genre-blending musical palette to reflect the many voices and emotional layers inside the lead character’s head. Drawing from diverse styles, we shaped music that feels expressive, dynamic, and deeply connected to the film’s narrative. This project challenged me creatively and expanded my approach to storytelling through music.
Liewe Dudu (2024)
Directed by Lydia Anne Stander
Dark Comedy Short Film
I composed the original score for Liewe Dudu (2024), a quirky dark comedy featured at Silwerskermfees. Using mandolin, château piano-style sounds, quirky jazz drums, double bass, and pizzicato strings, I crafted a playful, darkly comedic soundtrack that mirrors the chaos, humor, and unique personalities of Dudu, Lerato, and Nina. Each instrument was chosen to enhance the absurdity and charm of the story, creating a score as lively and unexpected as the film itself.
Pronk Primêr (2024)
Directed by André Velts
Comedy Series (13 Episodes)
Pronk Primêr is a hilarious situational comedy filled with larger-than-life characters and sharp wit. To match its playful tone, I composed a score that leans into the absurdity and fun of the story, using instruments like tuba, mandolin, and harpsichord to create a quirky, whimsical sound world. With a star-studded cast including Tobie Cronjé, Pietie Beyers, and Solomon Cupido, the music was designed to enhance the humor and give the series its own offbeat personality.
Die Onderonsie (2023)
Directed by Philip Nolte
Dark Comedy TV Movie
For Die Onderonsie, I built an animalistic, percussive sonic world to mirror the friends’ descent from civility into suspicion. I layered handmade percussion (shakers, flutes used percussively, African drums, found objects) with processed vocal textures—my own voice stretched, pitched, and granulated—so the score breathes and snarls alongside the story. The result is a heartbeat-driven, primal palette that grows more feral as alliances fracture, culminating in dense rhythmic beds and anxious motifs that echo the film’s darkly comic paranoia.
Beïnvloedbaar (2023)
Directed by JC Snooke
Thriller TV Movie
In the score for Beïnvloedbaar (2023), a gripping South African psychological thriller that premiered on kykNET and later streamed on DStv Catch Up and Showmax, I channeled the unsettling edge of social media obsession through unconventional sonic textures. Drawing inspiration from the film’s chilling narrative—where five influencers compete in a reality show reboot and ratings-wary producers resort to extreme, murderous tactics to revive viewership—I sculpted a soundscape that mirrored the film’s dark heart. By layering various synths filtered through guitar pedals, distortions, reverbs, and delays, I sought to sonically evoke the sweaty dread beneath the polished veneer of influencer culture. The score makes your skin curl and your hair stand on end, pushing listeners into the uncanny territory where fame becomes weaponized. I love crafting unique, unnerving sonic environments—especially for thriller and horror scores—and Beïnvloedbaar offered the perfect canvas to explore the sinister dynamics of control, power, and performance in the age of social media.
Wegbreek (2023)
Directed by JC Snooke
Thriller TV Movie
For Wegbreek (2023), a tense psychological thriller about a social media star whose weekend getaway with her boyfriend turns into a nightmare when they discover hidden cameras in their room, I created a score that amplifies the creeping paranoia and dread of surveillance. As the story darkens and the couple’s escape spirals into terror, the film takes a disturbing turn when the kidnapper captures the girl and forces her to eat actual brain matter—a shocking and traumatic moment. To mirror this twisted descent, I used heavily manipulated synths, distorted vocal elements—shouting, screaming, and muffled textures—and layered unsettling sound design with metallic percussion, including spoons, to signify the dread and strange rituals of the kidnapper. By bending instruments in and out of tune and exploring dark phrygian harmonies, I built a sonic world that feels claustrophobic, unpredictable, and deeply unsettling, immersing the audience in the character’s desperation and fear.
'n Snuf In Die Neus (2022)
Directed by JC Snooke
Crime Mystery TV Movie
For 'n Snuf in die Neus (2022), a compelling crime-mystery TV movie directed by J.C. Snooke and written by Mark Haines and Jaco van Bosch, I crafted a score steeped in classic noir sensibilities. Set in a retirement home, the story follows a retired detective and his sidekick racing against time to solve one final case before his terminal illness claims him. To evoke the smoky intrigue and shadow-drenched tension of film noir, I drew inspiration from legendary composers of the 1940s and 1950s, blending that timeless atmosphere with a modern edge. I wove together a palette of brass—trumpets and saxophones—with the lyrical resonance of piano, celeste, and vibraphone to create a soundscape that feels both mysterious and emotionally layered. The result is a subtly haunting score that underscores the film’s blend of nostalgia, urgency, and cerebral suspense—perfectly matching the narrative’s blend of warmth, wisdom, and mounting danger.
